A NOTE FROM AUSTINI first knew Hazen Cuyler, who studied with me in the acting class I teach at HB Studio, in New York City. I was immediately struck by his work. Some of the most astonishing work I've seen in my class (and it's as of right now been fifty years that I've been teaching) has come from Hazen. So I was very happy when I found that he was beginning The Greenhouse Ensemble. I knew he would be encouraging the quality of work that I had seen him do, and I knew that would be very good for the New York theater scene. And so it has been. I've seen plenty of the work that Greenhouse has done and it has been beautiful and challenging and full of adventurous programming (new plays, Shakespeare, all kinds of things) and altogether a rich and very, very promising asset to the future of our theater.
I give him my highest possible endorsement. Sincerely, Austin Pendleton |
